Comprehensive Fertility Enhancement Program
Chinese Medicine & Naturopathic Medicine
This holistic program is for women who are interested in maximizing their fertility. Our patients range from women who want to achieve their health potential before conception to women with documented impediments to pregnancy such as thyroid disorders, endometriosis, premature ovarian failure (POF), irregular menstruation, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and immunologic infertility.
Chinese Medicine
Maureen H. Rozenn, LAC, DAOM, PhD (c), is an assistant professor at Five Branches University, and has attained her clinical doctorate in acupuncture and oriental medicine (DAOM) with a specialization in Women's Health. Also, for her PhD in Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine she conducted research examining the effects of acupuncture on assisted reproductive techniques (ART) in conjunction with the Fertility Physicians of Northern California. She is also coauthoring a book on Chinese medicine and fertility enhancement.
Naturopathic Medicine
Aimée Gould Shunney, ND specializes in Women's Health and Family Medicine. A new mom herself, Dr. Shunney enjoys helping women enhance their fertility through blending conventional diagnosis and natural therapeutics. A natural and dynamic teacher, Dr. Shunney has lectured extensively to laypeople, medical students, residents and physicians, and has appeared regularly on local radio and television. In addition, Dr. Shunney is pursuing postgraduate studies in Women's Health with Dr. Tori Hudson at the Institute for Women's Health and Integrative Medicine in Portland, Oregon.
The Program entails detailed assessments by both Dr. Rozenn and Dr. Shunney and an individualized fertility boosting treatment plan. Our areas of expertise include:
Acupuncture/Heat Therapy
Dr. Rozenn has studied with masters of Japanese, Classical Chinese and Traditional Chinese acupuncture. She employs specific treatments to regulate the endocrine system, adjust hormone levels, induce ovulation and promote pelvic circulation.
The Arvigo Techniques™ of Maya Abdominal Massage
Dr. Shunney is proud to be one of the growing number of certified Maya Abdominal Massage practitioners. In the Mayan tradition, the uterus is a woman's center, and if it is out of balance, she will be physically, emotionally and spiritually out of balance. Throughout the course of a woman's life, the uterus can shift out of its normal anatomical position. These ancient massage techniques can improve circulation, enhance lymphatic drainage and gently restore alignment and health to the pelvic and abdominal organs.

What if I'm already doing Western infertility treatment?
Some of our patients come to us after they have already begun Western medical treatments for infertility. In these cases, our objective is to increase the effectiveness of the Western interventions. For example, there are numerous studies showing: acupuncture's ability to help those with PCOS ovulate, improved response to clomid with Chinese herbal formulas, increased in vitro fertilization success rates with acupuncture and improved endocrine function with nutritional supplements and Western herbs. We are happy to work in conjunction with reproductive endocrinologists and OB/GYNs to provide our patients with the best possible care.
