Maureen is a primary health care provider with experience treating a wide range of health issues. In addition to being a skilled acupuncturist and herbalist, Maureen is a doctoral fellow and assistant professor at Five Branches University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, director of Cedar Street Healing Arts Clinic, community lecturer, and is on the advisory board of the local non-profit HELP! (Help & Education for Liver Patients).
Maureen is excited to be in Five Branches University's and Zhejiang Chinese Medical University's first joint doctoral class. The first two years of this program consists of a clinical doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) while the third year is spent doing research and formulating a doctoral thesis for an academic doctorate in Chinese medicine (PhD). Maureen is attaining her DAOM with a specialization in Women's Health and Pain Management. She is going on to conduct research on fertility in conjunction with the Fertility Physicians of Northern California for her PhD.
Four years ago Maureen founded the Hepatitis C Treatment Clinic at Five Branches University. As an assistant professor, she enjoys teaching students to assess and treat both hepatitis C symptoms and Western antiviral drug side effects. She also gives free lectures on liver health for the community at Five Branches University and HELP! Maureen is a member of the Hepatitis C Task Force of Santa Cruz County, where she works in conjunction with community leaders, county health workers, nurses and doctors to manage this epidemic.
At Cedar Street Healing Arts Clinic Maureen enjoys a diverse clinical practice. She uses both Western and Eastern diagnostic tools in her medical evaluation and diagnosis, so her patients receive the wisdom of both worlds. Maureen uses Eastern methods of diagnosis such as pulse reading, tongue observation and abdominal palpation. In addition, she incorporates Western diagnostic tools such as lab work and imaging reports into her assessment. Maureen utilizes both conventional and alternative lab tests for evaluating gastrointestinal health, hormone levels, food and environmental allergies, and adrenal and liver function.
Acupuncture is a very powerful healing tool, which has been used for over 2,000 years. Maureen has chosen to expand her holistic healthcare practice with a wide variety of modalities. Treatments might also include heat therapy, herbal prescriptions, nutritional supplements, plus diet and lifestyle counseling, to improve her patient's health. During the first visit each patient receives a personalized treatment detailing Eastern and Western diagnosis, appropriate modalities for treatment, and measures for self care.
